A  Joyful  Jump

We had arrived early the summer of 1976 prior to beginning our Bible School Training.  There was a lot happening in Tulsa Oklahoma, and we decided to take advantage of special Revival meetings through out the area.

An advertised meeting and the name, “W.V. Grant,” caught our eye and there was to be prayer for the sick along with good Biblical teaching.

A short thin man led the singing and then he announced that Rev Grant had missed his plane but we would go ahead and enjoy the service and the Rev would miss out.

That was a good way of putting it.

During the song service, the leader suggested that we should jump for joy and dance if that suited us.  Dancing did not, but he led us in a joyful jump instead.

I have seen little children leap and jump for joy over just being so very happy, but this was a first for us.  We looked at each other and made a choice - - Why not?

So we entered in and with a rhythm to the beat we happily jumped for joy as unto the Lord.

My knees will not allow me to do much jumping these days, but I can sway and step from one foot to the other in praise and worship to the Lord.

Miriam danced before the Lord and others joined in with her.

King David danced wildly before the Lord and embarrassed his wife.

I do hope this does not embarrass you, but the Bible says to Clap your hands all ye people, shout, and sing with a voice of triumph as we worship the Lord.

Our body does want to participate when there is the sound of good worship music and a gentle jump for joy will do us all good.

Praise the Lord for He is worthy to be praised.

A Peace that Goes Beyond Understanding

Be Still my Soul, and Know that He is God!

I was awakened the other morning hearing the angels sing - - Not with my "ears" but in my spirit I heard repeated over and over again - -

'Be still O' my soul, and know that He is God!  Be still O' my soul, and know that He lives within my heart.'

Not being a song writer and not much of a singer either, this was a new experience for me. I rejoiced as the anthem rolled and flowed over my spirit.

As a child I remember asking my mother, “Why does our church spend so much time praising God?”  She replied, “When we get to heaven we will do a good deal of praising, so we might as well get in practice now by worshiping the Lord with our mouth.”

I can imagine the angel choir singing praises to God, and one day we will join with them in song when we reach heaven.  However Mother’s suggestion is a good one, begin NOW to get in practice with your praise.

Through out the day I discover my lips saying, “Thank you Jesus.” I am reminded of the verse, “Bless the Lord O’ my soul, and forget not all His benefits.”

There are many reasons to Praise God!  First and foremost we are grateful that God sent His only begotten son Jesus to die for us so that we might be saved from destruction.

We praise Jesus for being willing to leave heaven’s glory, to lay down his life, and to become the supreme sacrifice so that we might inherit eternal life.

We give thanks to the Holy Spirit for filling us, and coming along side us to be our guide comforter, and teacher.

On the earthly and material level we then give thanks for everything and anything that brings us pleasure and joy, and for which we can be grateful.

List making is not my forte and never has been, (except for an occasional grocery list) but there are many who join with  Ann Voskamp  taking their Inventory of  One Thousand Gifts  to be thankful for.  Her book by that name has been a best seller and also has been translated into six languages.  Amazing isn’t it?

Ann’s record taking is of simple things that most of us overlook.  Might we begin to be thankful for a delicate flower in the path, a smile or a giggle from a child, or an unexpected hug from a friend?

In our hurry and scurry to get things done and finish the tasks that we have put on our “To Do list,” may we somewhere in that rush - - STOP and take time to BE STILL and reflect on God, and give Him the praise that is due Him.

'Be still Oh' my soul, and know that He is God!

A Visit to South Korea

Clop clop clop that was the sound heard on our back as my daughter Becky and I received an official Korean massage.  Having nothing to compare this to, it seemed like cupped hands going up and down our spine that sounded like galloping horses.

My youngest daughter, Sargent Judie had met Becky and me at the airport and she knew we would be tired.  The first thing she wanted us to do was relax with a nice massage.  “Here is a towel, so take a shower first and report back here.”  Those were our instructions.

The Korean Tourism and the Military were cooperating to give the military families an exciting ten day tour of Korea.  Hotels were giving special rates, and there was activities and shows available in the off time.

After we checked into the Harrison Hotel, Judie treated us to a wonderful Korean buffet which included music and dancers.  Kimchi was something Judie wanted us to try.  It is a staple made from cabbage that has been fermented, seasoned and is a tad hot.  Not being used to hot seasoned food, I wasn’t sure if I wanted to try it, but surprising enough it was delicious.  Actually it is excellent for your health.

Judie knew her way around Soule and she showed us how easy it was to hail a taxi.  You wave as if you were waving good bye.

We noticed many people were wearing gauze masks, and I asked her about it.  She explained that most wear them because the air is bad, others are afraid of germs.

The next day Judie returned from her Air Force base to take us shopping at the Korean Mall.  “Better price,” is what you say even if you think the price is good.  They love to bargain with you, so that is what we did.

When our arms were full, Judie took us to the Military Base Post Office and we shipped our purchases home using US mail service.

As we completed our visit, we attended the largest Christian Korean church.  There was an area for foreigners to sit and select which language they would like as a translation.  Afterwards we stopped to see the visitor’s center where an American Missionary gave us brochures about Prayer Mountain  http://www.davidcho.com/NewEng/PrayerMountain.asp

The Missionary explained how the church has grown by utilizing home cell meetings.

The demarcation zone was very interesting.  We were asked not to speak to the soldiers, but some looking through the windows, smiled and waved to us.  We had to ignore them.

We said a sad farewell to Judie as we boarded the airplane for home.  Judie had a few more months before she would be reassigned to return to California.

There is so much beauty here in this world, and each country has its own culture and loveliness.  God has created a planet that causes me to wonder if there could be additional splendor elsewhere.  If this earth is so wonderful, I pause to consider how magnificent and breathtaking heaven must be?

Are you Shy?

As a young child in school, my face would turn beet red when ever I was called on by the teacher.  I respected adult leadership almost to the point of being afraid to speak out.

My shyness extended into High School, and I wanted an A in Geometry, but my teacher informed the class that she only gave A's to those who would raise their hands and explain the answer to the problem we had that day.  I did my best, but in her opinion it was not good enough, and she gave me a B+ on my report card.

The next day, I called my teacher to my desk and quietly but forcefully told her that I deserved an A and she was in error to give me less.  For “shy me” that was risky business.

As far as I knew, no one else complained, but my words flustered her a bit.  She told me to speak up more which I did, and at the end of the semester she relented and gave me an A as my final grade.

I have outgrown my shyness, and with God’s help I am no longer afraid to speak out.

Usually I have found it best to delay and not to speak in haste or in anger.  Often I wait until God says, NOW, usually it is the next day.  While waiting I ask our Lord, what exactly should I say?

The Holy Spirit begins to formulate a plan of words and when I follow the script that He gives to me, and there is no offence.

My hope is that the needed words are heard and received in their spirit.

If you are shy, just ask God, “What do I say next?”  He will give you His words to say.

Psalms 19:14  Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart Be acceptable in Your sight, O LORD, my strength and my Redeemer.
