You Want Me to Do What? – Edited Sunday Sermon

Disappointed With a Word From God

Naaman's servants went to him and said, "My father, if the prophet had told you to do some great thing, would you not have done it? How much more, then, when he tells you, 'Wash and be cleansed'!" —2 Kings 5:13

Just like US at times, Captain Naaman did NOT like the word from the prophet.

Perhaps you have gone to church or to a Bible study hoping for a word from the Lord, and you have sat there thinking, “Well, so far God hasn't spoken to me. I don't know why I even came.”

It may be that God has already given you a word and you don't like it. You want something else, some other word. Accept what God has given you, and who knows what will happen in the end?

Jesus said, "Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much" (Luke 16:10).

I have been reading an e-book: “The Risk Factor” by Kevin and Chad Dedmon (father and son authors) forward by Pastor Bill Johnson and Missionary Heidi Baker.

Dedmon, Kevin; Dedmon, Chad (2011-12-20). The Risk Factor: Crossing the Chicken Line Into Your Supernatural Destiny. Kindle Edition.

Their exciting testimonies encourage Christians to believe the Bible when Jesus said:  Mark 16:17-18b And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; 18b  they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.”

Side note:  Redding, California, Bethel Church has become a place where many people are healed of cancer and many other health problems after receiving prayer.  Jesus is the healer and he still heals today !!

What God does in Redding California - - He can do with you when you take a risk to step out and pray for those in need.

Often we hesitate to reach out because of FEAR - what will people think of me?  Remember they thought Jesus was out of his mind too!  And the 120 were accused of being drunk !

According to Second Corinthians 10: 5, we need to learn how to take every thought captive under the obedience of Christ, because the spirit of unbelief can speak in the form of our personal thoughts. For example, the thought could sound something like this, What if this doesn’t work, or what if this person doesn’t get healed when I pray? These thoughts arise from the fear that we will fail if we try and also from the fear of people.

That is where the risk comes in – just take the risk and leave the result up to God.

Let Me Tell You a True Story !!

Our old Hound dog is having trouble with his joints and I find him limping some days.

Doing an internet search for pet joint pain and treatment I was amazed at all the bargains to help, so I placed an order.  Next they offered me a discount if I ordered more so I did.  Oh what fun this was.

Now the waiting part!!  Can you believe that I am so extremely excited about the arrival of those packages?  They should arrive any day now!!  Soon and very soon!!

I believe this attitude of being anxious and eager is what the Lord expects from us, as we wait for the return of Jesus.  We know the Bible promises that He will come back, but only the Father knows the exact day or the hour.

Because we do not know the exact day or the hour, we should at least be aware of the signs of the times.

Luke 21:25 And there shall be signs upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity;

It is important to be ready for when Jesus does return, for it will be so very quick.  Just a blink of an eye; and all the Christians will rise to meet Jesus in the clouds.

Now, how excited is that?  Will it be tomorrow?  Only God knows.  Soon and Very Soon!

Act 1:11 Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? This same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.

Peace is Better Than Bitterness by R.T. Kendall

Make every effort to live in peace with all men and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord. —Hebrews 12:14

When we are bitter, we delude ourselves into thinking that those who hurt us are more likely to be punished as long as we are set on revenge.

We are afraid to let go of those feelings. After all, if we don't make plans to see that justice is done, how will justice be done? We make ourselves believe that it is up to us to keep the offense alive.

That the devil's lie. We only hurt ourselves when we dwell on what has happened to us and fantasize about what it will be like when "they" get punished. Most of all, we grieve the Holy Spirit of God, and this is why we lose our sense of peace.

It is my experience that the quickest way I seem to lose inner peace is when I allow bitterness to reenter my heart. It's not worth it! I made a decision for inner peace. But I found that I had to carry out that decision by a daily commitment to forgive those who hurt me, and to forgive them totally. I therefore let them utterly off the hook and resigned myself to this knowledge: * They will prosper and be blessed as if they had done no wrong.

What's more, I actually began to will this! I prayed for it to happen. I asked God to forgive them. But I have had to do this every day to keep the peace within my heart.  Having been on both sides, I can tell you: The peace is better. The bitterness isn't worth it.

I have come to believe that the only way to move beyond the hurt and go forward in life is through total forgiveness.   Excerpted from Total Forgiveness (Charisma House, 2002).
