Boldness  (A true story from my Book Rescue the Stories book one.

As a young girl, I was extremely shy, and at school if the teacher called on me to recite, my heart would pound and my face would turn a crimson red.  I would suffer the flush flowing to my cheeks, and tears rushing to my eyes, and my body was almost frozen not allowing my mouth to speak.  Fear has torment.

My teacher was wise, and she decided that to help me out of my shell, she would give me some responsibility.  One day, she led me into the children’s library that was next to our first grade room, and showed me how to place the books on the shelf in their order by author.  She told me that I was now in charge of the library.  I suppose that began my love for books and the printed word.  Also my being an in-charge person!

One day, my teacher decided to divide the class into three reading groups.  As she called the names for group one, I was not included.  Group two was called and I heard my name.  I was stunned.  Although it was not the actual case, I perceived group two and three to mean, inferior and less important than group one, and I was not happy.

The teacher was speaking, “Group one will please come with me into the Library, and the others will stay and study their lesson.”  Group one stood and began to follow the teacher.  I also stood and tagged along with the others.

The teacher noticed immediately and gently told me, “Hazel, you are in group two.”  I boldly spoke up and said firmly, “I am number one.”  The teacher, hid a smile, and said, “alright, I will include you in group one.”

That incident of being bold did NOT cure me of my shyness, or embarrassment when I was called on, but I was emotionally rewarded for having stood up for what I believed at the time.

Do you ever break out in a cold sweat, your heart pounds like a drum, and the palms of your hands are wet with fear?   I must insert here, “Join the Club.”

Most of us suffer with times of hesitancy to step forward when there is a need to make a stand.  Many of our fears are imaginary and we fanaticize what might happen if we act.

Joyce Meyer has a saying that has means a lot to me, and it is: “DO it AFRAID.”

The next good piece of advice is to listen to the still small voice of the Holy Spirit.  If the Lord is telling you, to speak up, shut up, go forward, get out, stay there - - be quick to listen, and if it lines up with the Word of God, and you have peace about it, then obey.

Boldness comes with practice, and each time you listen and obey, you will gain confidence.   The Holy Spirit is our helper, and He gives strength to the weak, and might and power to those who will make the effort to ask Him for it, and believe it is for you.

Be Bold, be confident, and know that God will open doors for you, simply be courageous enough to enter each door, and you will be amazed what God will do through you.

Proverbs 28:1  The wicked flee when no man pursues: but the righteous are bold as a lion.

Chiropractic Care (from my Book Rescue the Stories book Two)

Our Son, Dr. Steven Moon recently celebrated thirty years as a Doctor of Chiropractic Care.  This is the story of how it all happened.  In College Steven had taken courses to become a licensed X-ray technician, and soon after graduation he obtained work at Kaiser Hospital in their X-ray department.

It was close to Christmas and we had decided to have a Company dinner at a wonderful Chinese restaurant in Castro Valley.  Along with our Roofing crew, we also invited our family to join with us to celebrate Christmas.

Steven sat across from us, and all the roofing crew were complaining that their backs hurt and that they needed to see the chiropractor.  Someone spoke up and said we need our own chiropractor in the family.

My husband mentioned to Steven that our Chiropractor's son had just graduated from Chiropractic school and joined the practice, and did Steve know what it took to become a Chiropractor?   It captivated Steven as he said, “I don't know, but I can find out."

Steve went to his local Chiropractor’s office and asked him how to become a Chiropractor.  His Doctor was very excited and wanted him to go to his school in St Louis, but Steve didn't want to move so he checked the phone book (it was before the internet) and found two schools near by where he lived and one was accepting new students.

It turned out that he was only missing a few credits that could be gained by taking evening classes and so it began. We agreed to help him with tuition, in exchange for free family treatments.  Kaiser arranged his hours so he could work and begin school.  The first and second year went well.  The school was still getting their full accreditation and it appeared that Steve would need to transfer to a school in Oregon that would give him his certification.

We loaned him a car so he could attend school so far away, and gave him a reference so he easily rented a comfortable apartment in Oregon. When he was settled, he phoned several of his classmates and they also transferred to Oregon.  Kaiser offered him enough work in their X-ray department to pay his current bills.  Again we stepped up with the school quarterly fees.

Good to Know !
The training at the school in Oregon prepared the students to become a chiropractor but they could also do minor surgery and deliver babies.  I don’t think Steve ever used that knowledge in his chiropractic practice.

Our daughter Becky and I traveled to Oregon to witness Steve’s graduation and to celebrate afterwards with a nice dinner.

Steven began his practice by accepting a room in the office of another doctor, and his patient list began to grow.  When the other doctor raised the rent on his space, Steven searched for a private office all of his own.   The only thing he needed was a special table, an x-ray machine, and a receptionist.

Dear Steven, Happy thirty years of adjustments.

Trust Me he Said !
"Trust Me" is a true story from my Book Two, Rescue the Stories

Looking for a way to earn some extra money; my husband decided to purchase a used pick-up truck so he could do odd jobs.

He shopped and compared prices and finally decided on a used truck that was in excellent condition.  The car dealer was having it checked out, and we had not yet taken delivery.

A few days later around noon time, my door bell rang.  When I opened the door, it was the car salesman, who I recognized as the person selling us the truck.

In his hand he held a contract and a pen, and asked if my husband was home.  Naturally my husband was at work, he was not available and I told the salesman so.

The salesman suggested that I could sign the contract for my husband.  I hesitated mostly because the contract was blank.  I told him of my uncertainty to sign a blank document because it was not filled in.  He explained that the girl at the office would type it in as soon as he returned and all he needed was a signature.

“Trust me,” he said, as he offered me the pen.  I was young and gullible, so I took the pen and scribbled my husbands name to the paper.  The Salesman was happy, and he left.

A few days later, a payment book arrived in the mail and as I inspected it, I realized something was not right.  I told me husband that the amount was not what we had agreed to pay for the truck and instead a much larger amount was due.

My husband made a quick trip to the dealership and asked for the manager.  He tried to control his temper, but he told the manager that in no uncertain terms, we were not going to pay what we were now being charged.  The manager smirked and went to his filing cabinet and pulled out the contract, and holding it out to my husband, smugly he said, “Is this your signature?”

My husband emphatically told him, “NO it is NOT.”

To make a long story short, we eventually took delivery of the truck, and a new and better payment book, after they received a bonafied signature on a new contract.

Perhaps you have learned to hesitate when someone says to you, “Trust me.”

I certainly have!  I also have become skilled at researching things out and may I suggest that you also do so.   I often use Snopes.com/ when I doubt the truth in something on Face Book

Spiritually we should be aware that it was Satan that told Eve to “Trust me.”

If someone tells you a “new truth,” it would be good to search it out in the Bible to be certain it lines up with Scripture.

God is the one who is always Trustworthy.  When we do our research into the Word of God, we discover His truth revealed as it is written there, a Word that we can trust.

Trust in a Distrustful World

When traveling to a new location the reasons are always varied.   Sometimes we move to a new area due to health, loss of a job, death in the family and the reasons are many.

Personally our family arrived where we now live for one or those reasons.  We were out of options, so all we could do was trust God and move where He was showing us...

In the Southern areas of California there are fruit pickers who follow from one orchard or vineyard to the next hoping to earn a living.  Some would call them “Migrate farmers.”  Without realizing it these families are trusting God to provide a harvest so they can reap an income.

Another term for migrates would be Nomadic people.  Especially in other lands, the Nomads are generally a people who have no fixed home and move according to the seasons from place to place in search of food, water, and grazing land for their herds.

Genesis 12:1-4 The Lord had said to Abram, “Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you. I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing.  I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.”

So Abram went, as the Lord had told him; and Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he set out from Harran.

Such was not the case for 75 year old Abraham, as the land was vast, green and water was plentiful.  However one day, God spoke and told him to leave his Father and brethren and travel to a place that God would show him.  There God promised to make of him a great nation.

When you are comfortable where you are, it is difficult to pack up and move.

At this time Abraham was childless, so this was a surprise message from God.

Abraham believed God and trusted his voice and determined to obey his leading, so he left Haran, taking with him his nephew Lot, all their servants, their herds and belongings and slowly marched toward the land of Canaan.

As time went by, a famine was in all the land of Canaan and God told Abraham to move again, this time to Egypt.

His future was uncertain, and all around him his world was shaking, but again Abraham determined to trust and obey.  So he packed up and went !

Perhaps your world is shaking in this uncertain and untrustworthy world.

It is always time to reach out for God’s hand and trust Him because your future is safe in His hands.
